Autumnal Equinox

By Steve Sorensen

September 22, 2001

Today was the Autumnal Equinox, the day we cross from summer into fall, and it is my custom to get out into the backcountry to celebrate the changing seasons.

After the tragic events of September 11th in New York and Washington, I also had a dire need to immerse myself in a setting that would give me a better perspective on our human lives and remind me that on this earth there are things much deeper, more ancient and of greater permanence than us.

For these reasons I chose to spend the day of the Equinox wandering and exploring the area around Andrews Glacier in Rocky Mountain National Park.
