    It
was fall in the Rocky Mountains and I was in search of the changing aspen.
There had been a light snowfall the night before which made camping out
a miserable and muddy experience. Now as I explored a nearby aspen grove
the wet undergrowth soaked through my boots. The sky was gray and cold.
I was beginning to think of giving up and leaving to find a hot cup of coffee
somewhere. Suddenly the sun shot through a hole in the heavy clouds and
a nearby clearing in the forest took on a luminescent glow. In that brief
moment I took this image before the sun disappeared for the rest of the
      day behind the clouds. |
