It was early October and I was exploring the backcountry around Owl Creek Pass in southern Colorado. Most of the surrounding aspen groves had already succumbed to the cold and dropped their leaves, but near the top of the pass I came across some hardy trees that were still displaying their glowing fall colors. As I wandered along I found my eyes drawn towards this view of Chimney Peak to the south. If you look carefully at this image you might see several of the golden aspen leaves that were floating down from the trees the instant I took this photograph.
