The rock formations known as the Flatirons are a prime landmark in the Boulder area. Marking the extreme eastern edge of the Rocky Mountain foothills, these slabs of rock are slowly being forced out of the ground by the same pressure raising the Rocky Mountains themselves. Here we see the distinctive features of the Flatirons highlighted by a fresh covering of snow.
