One of the more humbling experiences in life is to be caught in the Colorado backcountry during a snowstorm. In only a few minutes the weather can change from a mild winter morning into a harsh storm, with howling winds, blowing snow and rapidly dropping temperatures. I found myself in this situation one morning while snowshoeing near Lake Helene in Rocky Mountain National Park and managed to capture this photograph before retreating to the protection of the denser forest below.
